La Guesthouse Bohémienne da cui Scoprire L’Autenticità del Messico
Proyecto: Casa Criollo

Casa Criollo is a hospitality project where Mexican culture and identity create an atmosphere of tranquility and wellbeing
The city of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico, is a crossroads of history and folklore, a place where the past seems to overflow in streets teeming with stalls alongside the archeological ruins of Monte Albán. Here, just outside the city center designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits Casa Criollo, a guesthouse that was born as a restaurant — one of the most renowned in the area, curated by chef Luis Arellano and Enrique Olvera, which later opened to offer a complete experience.
Expanding the horizons always seemed like a natural step, extending a concept of hospitality that speaks to passion, authenticity and an attention to detail — both on the table and not. To sign off on the project is architect Javier Sánchez and Aisha Ballesteros of JSª and the interior designers of Habitacion116, who designed the small residence as an independent body, separated from the restaurant despite sharing the same minimalist and bohemian spirit.
The layout, simple and linear, is complete with a lounge featuring sweeping windows and two master bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, while exteriors introduce a patio nestled between raw concrete and flourishing greenery. There, guests will also find a Turkish bath and pool along with a hammock to be rocked between sips of mezcal.
Interiors are characterized by an understated and authentic atmosphere, where the color palette in natural tones and furnishings — charmingly rustic — are the result of a local craftsmanship. The materials, natural and raw, see an abundance of wood paired to textiles and small artistic objects capturing the Mexican culture and identity. A stay at Casa Criollo aims to immerse guests in the authentic essence of Oaxaca, tasting its flavors and discovering its beauty, all in a serene space that enchants the mind and heart.
